STATEMENT

The Onu Triple Pendant is suspended from three points using flex cable. The draped timber form draws lines within the interior, resembling the lightness of a ribbon floating in space. The design is a continuation on the Onu Series which comprises of several lighting designs.

The minimal and elegant design aims to bring a sense of the natural world into interior spaces through form and symbolism. The design is formed around the notion of divergence, a glimmer of light between the trees and the intention of the design to not dominate a space, but softly invite intrigue and delight from the occupants. The Onu Triple Pendant demonstrates a repeated elegant linear form. It is through the splitting of the timber where the light emits out into the space, and the life of the tree is revealed though its opening. Emulating the core of a living organism, the piece projects an atmospheric warm light into an interior space.

The piece is completely handmade in Melbourne. The design has integrated numerous traditional woodworking techniques and demonstrated them in a modern and contemporary design. Utilising the bent lamination technique, the sections are formed, creating a splitting and divergence in the linear form. These elements are then hand shaped with a variety of tools.
