STATEMENT

Harvest consists of three brooches in the shape of a grain of rice, bean, and lentil.

They are made from those food waste and treated and turned into bioplastic with added preservative. A silver brooch back is attached from below.

The work is a celebration of the artist's childhood and joyful nature of food. It also questions the sustainability of farming and the climate crisis we face today.

Minqi Gu is a Brisbane based curator, contemporary jewellery artist and designer. She holds a Master of Architecture from University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Architecture from University of Queensland. In 2021 Minqi Gu was a national finalist for the Contemporary Wearables Award held in Toowoomba Regional Gallery. She has exhibited at Brisbane Design Festival with Brisbane Powerhouse and Third Quarter Gallery, Canberra Design Festival, and Craft ACT
