STATEMENT

My art practice explores light and its ability to articulate space. I am fascinated by repeating patterns, contrasting forms and tonal shifts observed in my everyday surroundings. I enjoy the way that light interacts with architectural and natural forms, accentuating shape and highlighting subtle changes across a surface. I am drawn to glass for its ability to capture, reflect and transmit light and throughout my art practice, I have explored how I can create illusions of space and perspective through the interaction of glass, light and colour.

Momentary, consists of three glass wall panels that are connected by bands of transparent and opaque colour. The work offers a curiosity of space and perspective as the banded layers of colour, tone, and transparency shuffle amongst each other. The subtle tones of grey, blue, and purple each fade away as they move across the glass panels. Block regions of blended colour sit within each panel, holding the viewers gaze. Opaque white and transparent clear glass are used to divide the work across the horizon, suggesting a broad view of space. The contrast of both opaque, transparent, and tonal shifts throughout the work creates an illusion of form and surface, suggesting a space that is both flat and with depth. The addition of projected light creates an activated space surrounding the work as the transparent and opaque glass both block and transmit colour and pattern behind the panels.
